Tanzania and China have signed seven contracts, totaling USD 1.7 billion, for investments in electricity, residential and business real-estate construction, and research.

The deal was brokered last week in China during Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda's trip there.
The contracts include:

- Partnering between Tanzania Electric Supply Company and China's Tabiau Electric Apparatus Stock Co Ltd to expand electric grids from Dar es Salaam to northern Tanzania.

- Partnering between the National Housing Corporation, China Railway Jianchang Engineering, and Poly Technology to construct residential housing and business centers throughout Tanzania.

- Partnering between the National Development Corporation, China Dalian International Economic & Technical Corporation Group, and Hydro Kunming Engineering Corporation to construct a renewable energy research center.

Chinese companies are also eyeing the oil and gas blocks which just opened for bidding last week after the Tanzanian Oil and Gas conference.
