The Institute of Finance Management
(IFM) has scooped all top three prizes of the 2015 Dar es Salaam Stock
Exchange (DSE) scholar investment challenge.
The three winners and IFM students were
Brigiter Nchembi, Johnson Peter Mwalongo and Sangiwa Katavo who walked
away with cash prize of 1m/-, 600,000/- and 400,000/- respectively.
The DSE Chief Executive Officer, Mr
Moremi Marwa, said in Dar es Salaam yesterday the yearly edutainment
campaign targeting youth in all higher learning institutions in the
country that attracted more than 5,000 participants was concluded at the
end of June.
“The winners of the challenge were
considered by a panel of judges to have made the most sound investment
decisions, the highest portfolio value and contributed better in the
discussion forum,’ he said.
The leading student with the highest
portfolio value has increased investment capital by 35 per cent in the
90 days period of active investment.
During the period, students were
challenged and expected to improve their business, finance and economic
understanding and develop key mathematical techniques and applications
in a collaborative and time pressured environment.
The challenge was set to provide
platform for developing and demonstrating and understanding of business
and finance, while also helping students to develop their personal
learning, thinking and functional skills.
They also learned that prices, indices,
information and other data in the equity market are affected not only by
the fundamental performance of the listed firms, the sectors and the
overall economic trends, but also information in the news in addition to
what other investors, investment analysts and brokers do.
The challenge also aims at educating
youth the prudent process of investment decision making and risk
management and in the process, foster links with professional bodies and
industry.
At the end of the challenge, DSE hopes
students to become good and inspire the society to start participating
in the stock market.
