Cattle supply at main Dar market declines

The average weekly cattle supply at the Pugu market declined slightly by 4.2 per cent to 2,950 compared to 3080 of the week earlier, the situation that pushed up prices for the breeds.

According to the information released by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the prices for mature cattle female grade two fell to 700,000/- from 750,000/- of the previous market, which is 6.7 per cent fall.

The prices for grade three female cattle recorded a 6.25 per cent price increase to 425,000/- from 400,000/- of the previous market.

The prices for mature cattle male grade two increased to 805,000/- in the week under review from 786,000/- recorded in the previous period, representing a 2.42 per cent change.

The prices of the male cattle grade three registered a 28.6 per cent rise to 650,000/- compared to 505,000/- of the previous week.

Meanwhile, the average weekly supply of goat at the market declined to 970, which is equivalent to 3.4 per cent change from 1005 of the previous period.

The prices for mature female goat grade two increased to 115,000/- from 110,000/- of the previous week, which is 4.5 per cent change.

The prices for female goats grade three increased to 60,000/- from 55,000/- , which is 9.1 per cent change. Mature male goats grade two saw its prices rising by 3.5 per cent to 150,000/- from 145,000/- previously while male goats grade three recorded remained unchanged at 60,000/- as that of the preceding marketing.

Similarly, the weekly average supply for sheep recorded 17.1 per cent increase to 405 from 490 supplied in the week before.

The prices for mature female sheep grade two remained unchanged at 70,000/- with that of the previous market while the female sheep grade three also saw its prices remained constant at 50,000/- as of the previous market.
