Trading at the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) last week was low
in comparison to the previous season, when the turnover slipped to
601m/-, a 67 per cent drop from 1,001m/- recorded during the preceding
period.
However, both indices, the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange All Share
Index (DSEI) and Tanzania Share Index (TSI) edged north to close at
1,464.97 points and 1,321.72 points, respectively.
Activity levels slowed to 715,346 shares, a sharp decline, 190 per
cent down compared to previous week’s performance where 2,071,861 shares
changed hands. During the week, foreign investors generated 32.45m/-
from the purchase of 29,500 NMB shares.
Banking sector Index strengthened by 7.22 per cent to close the week
at 1,066.82 points. In the Industrial and Allied, the Index decreased,
on the backdrop of a loss posted on the Twiga. The counter lost by 6 per
cent to close the week at 2,500/- per share.
The banks accounted for 84 per cent of the market value and 91 per
cent of the week’s total volume traded where 649,807 shares were
transacted. A total turnover amounting 502m/- was generated.
The NMB accounted for 95 per cent of the banking segment. The counter
gained from last week’s 1000/- to end the period at 1,100/- per share.
About 248,842 shares were transacted last week out of 433,703 which
exchanged hands supported by local investors.
The CRDB closed the week at 117/-, a 2.17 per cent gain, higher than
115/- of the previous week. During the period under review, the counter
transacted 216,104 shares lower than 1,592,702 shares of the previous
period.
Swissport was the top mover this week with a turnover of 56m/-, up
from last period turnover of 49m/-. Local investors were active on both
the buy and sell sides during the week. The counter gained 40/- this
week at 1,700/- per share.
TATEPA moved 16,900 shares at 400/- per share. The counter ended the
week with a gain of 50/-. For the week, the TCC counter traded 1,533
shares at 4,020/- per share. Other counters traded were TBL, Simba and
Twiga with 4,000, 3,000 and 6,666 shares respectively.
