Connection mishaps cause halt of bank services

Barclays customer leaves ATM without served
Operations at Barclays Bank Tanzania normalised yesterday after a network fault disrupted its services at the weekend in the City and Zanzibar.

According to the Bank’s statement issued in Dar es Salaam yesterday, the cause of the network failure was with service providers, namely, the Tanzania Telecommunications Company Limited (TTCL) and Vodacom Tanzania, who also faced some technical problems at their side.

A survey by The Citizen at the weekend observed customers stranded at the Bank’s Automated Teller Machines (ATMs), which were not functioning.

Service in some branches in the city were also not available because of what the Bank’s staff said were “related to network problems”.

“The TTCL fibre to Zanzibar was damaged at Tegeta and it affected the bank’s operations in Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam,” the statement said.

Vodacom Wimax network had also a critical downtime on Friday between 10:00 and 13:00 which was due to an upgrade they were conducting on their network, the statement further noted.

It added: “But the service was restored at 13:00 which required a rollback of these changes. The rollback required some sites to reset the cables manually. This issue is now resolved and everything is working out fine.”

A survey by The Citizen yesterday morning found out that services had returned to normal.
