Exim Bank’s training hub gets quality certification

Exim Academy has received an International Organization for Standardization (ISO 9001:2008) certification for quality that shows the institution’s commitment to quality and willingness to work towards improving efficiency.

The certificate, of the training hub for Exim Bank Tanzania launched last year, is the first of its kind to be awarded to a training institution within the financial sector not only in Tanzania but East Africa as a whole.

Speaking to reporters in Dar es Salaam, the Exim Bank Tanzania Chief Finance Officer, Mr Selemani Amani, said the attainment of the standard inspires the bank’s staff to continue achieving consistent business processes and further driving measurable and cost-saving performance improvements.

Amani said the certificate is a landmark as the bank embarks on implementing a Quality Management System (QMS) that focuses on building a more professional staff network.

“We are pleased to get this international recognition. It is especially pleasing to know that our company’s efforts to achieve the world’s most recognized business management standards were recognized,” he said.

He reiterated the certificate exhibited the bank’s continued commitment towards improvement in process, performance and governance.

Mr Amani said the bank’s excellence strategy embarked upon a few years ago has finally began to pay off after the bank mid last year emerged overall winner in the aspect of customers care according a report released by international audit firm KMPG that surveyed 32 banks in Tanzania.

“This would not have been achieved without skilled and dedicated staff. We will continue to invest in customer service delivery and enhance the development of staff skills at the Exim Academy to serve our customers better in our quest to become Tanzania’s preferred bank by choice,” he added.

The ACM Tanzania Lead Auditor Tawanda Manyuchi, a local company accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKA) to carry out the bank’s assessment for management systems during the event said the certificate is the first to be awarded to an institution of financial institution not only in Tanzania but East Africa as a whole.

“The certificate awarded to Exim Academy is a qualification for the bank to benchmark its management standards with the best in the world.

“Achieving certification to international standards takes a lot of hard work and commitment. Exim Bank should now committee its self top ensuring that all the standards and requirements to sustain the certification are not only met but excelled,” Manyuchi added.
