Payment of school fees goes electronic

The Zoop Company limited has extended its SchoolPesa service to Valentine Elite School to enable parents pay tuition fees.

Speaking at a press conference in Dar es Salaam, the Zoop Limited Managing Director, Mr Manzi Rwegasira (pictured), said parents can now pay quickly and from anywhere, thanks to Zoop powered by M-Pesa.

Parents would have access to the receipts of their payment whenever they want through Zoop online portal.

“There is no need of travelling all the way to the bank to pay school fees thanks to the SchoolPesa service,” he said.

He explained that in three steps a parent would be given a student identity number (ID) that allows Zoop to safely and securely track all payments as well as online and printable receipts and SMS payment confirmation.

Mr Rwegasira said once signed up all they need to do is to go to the M-Pesa menu and that payments will be processed in 48 hours, adding that Zoop gives users all the information within minutes.

The service is already in use by Eagles Boys’ School in Bagamoyo, St. Valentine at Mbezi, Prince English Medium in Kagera and over 10 other schools, he said.

Mr Rwegasira said the SchoolPesa can be used by schools to help them with the large amount of payments they need to track quickly, saying the service has helped to reduce late payments.

St. Valentine’s Nursery Primary School Director, Hildegard Mziray, said the service has helped to address cases of money lost in hands of pupils, saying previously pupils had to travel with their fees from home.
