Mantra scoops CSRE Presidential awards

Mantra Tanzania, a uranium exploration company, with its Mkuju River Project in Namtumbo Ruvuma Region emerged the best in Corporate Social Responsibility (CRC) and Empowerment Awards in Education, Health and Employment areas and overall 2nd best in the Exploration category.

Commenting about three awards his company scooped during the first Presidential Award to Extractive Industry Corporate Social Responsibility and Empowerment (CSRE) for 2012, Mantra Tanzania Managing Director, Asa Mwaipopo said, “the awards are a clear testimony of our good community relation programmes and engagement.

This recognition will further be a catalyst to upscale performance on our CSRE programmes.” The award which was presided over by President Jakaya Kikwete was organised by the Ministry of Energy and Minerals through the Extractive Industry Stakeholders Forum (EISF).

The Extractive industry companies were classified in four categories; Large scale mining, medium scale mining, oil and gas companies and exploration (minerals, oil and gas) companies.

The ceremony was also attended by Minister for Energy and Minerals, Prof Sospeter Muhongo, Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Eliakim Maswi, Acting Commissioner Ally Samaje, Canadian High Commissioner Alexandre Lévêque, some Members of Parliament and various members of the extractive industry sector.
