TRA aims at collecting 96% of taxes

With the clock ticking towards the end of the 2012/13 fiscal year, the taxman is assured of collecting at least 96 per cent of the projected total tax.

The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) says the four per cent gap is due to shortcomings in compliance.

The taxman partly blames economic difficulties that hit the country this financial year for this situation. TRA expects to collect more taxes this financial year, especially with the use of the Electronic Fiscal Devices and tax payer education.
