Construction of Gerezani road soon - Japan

Construction of a 1.3 km section of Gerezani road from Kamata in Nyerere road to Kilwa road in Dar es Salaam under financial support of Japan begins soon.

Japanese Ambassador to Tanzania Mr Masaki Okada told the Daily News in an exclusive interview that preparations had been finalized for expansion of the section of the road to double carriage way and construction of a new bridge.

“All the preparations for the implementations of 20bn/- worth project have been finalized and will be initiated soon once the government of Tanzania finalizes payment of compensations in the area where the project will be undertaken,” he said.

A 1.3 Km section of Gerezani Road and Bandari Road between the Kamata and Kilwa intersections and the reconstruction of Gerezani bridge where a double lane will be laid out will ease traffic congestion and positively affect economic development.

Ambassador Okada said Japan as the close development ally to Tanzania would maintain its commitments to ensure the projects intended to ease traffic jam in the city are realised.

In another development, Mr Okada said Japan and Tanzania’s government would in two week’s time sign an aid commitment to disburse funds for the General Budget Support (GBS) as well as the grant note for the construction of Tazara flyover.

“We have not received the exact figure for the GBS from the authorities in Japan, but certainly it will be signed in two weeks time,” he noted, adding that, “The grant note for the implementation of the Tazara flyover project will be signed on the same day.”

Ambassador Okada added, the consultant in the Tazara flyover was finalising some details which would lead to the commencement of the project in the second half of the year 2013.
