TPSF cluster arrangement supported

Private sector stakeholders have backed a new proposal on how to get leaders of the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF) capable of unifying and strengthening the country’s private sector.

Speaking at a TPSF members’ sensitisation seminar in Dar es Salaam, the said the cluster arrangement will benefit both members and the national economy. TPSF board of directors will under the new structure comprise special interest groups—women, youths and the disabled—with ten clusters likely to be expanded subject to economic changes.

The clusters are agriculture, manufacturing/industry, extractive, industries and energy, as well as tourism and natural resources.

Others are banking and financial services, services, trade and commerce, Zanzibar-based private sector organisations, regional business associations and female.

According to proposal, TPSF will have 11 board members of whom 10 will be elected based on the cluster representation, with one position reserved for the outgoing chairperson.

Tanzania Association of Pharmaceutical Industry Chairperson, Dr Sinare Sinare said a cluster system will help get strong leaders to build a competitive private sector in the country, “This arrangement will help to unify us.”

The Secretary for the Tanzania Freight Forwarders Association, Mr Solomon Kasa said that his association supports the new arrangement because it seeks to strengthen the private sector and develop the national economy.

The Confederation of Tanzania Industries Chief Executive Officer, Ms Christine Kilindu said the confederation that had earlier withdrawn from TPSF will now reconsider coming back.

“We can see that TPSF is now reorganizing for the better…we will now reconsider coming back as active member,” she said. It is expected that from next June, TPSF will have a new board under the cluster system.
