2012/13 BUDGET SPEECH: Government to review SDL

Dr Mgimwa
The government has said it reviews the rationale and the applicable rates of Skills Development Levy (SDL) and Motor Vehicle Licenses.

In doing so, the Minister Finance and Economic Affairs Dr William Mgimwa said, the government aims at expanding tax base, reducing tax burden to employers.

It also wants expanding employment opportunities in the country. Moreover the review of motor vehicle licenses will take into account the motive behind such licenses.

Private Sector earlier said it want the SDL rate to at least match with EAX and SADC rates. In Kenya, for instance, SDL is only 2per cent while Tanzania 6 per cent.
