Farmers and visitors to this year’s
Nanenane exhibition can look forward to acquiring highly discounted
smartphones from Tigo in a bid to give as many Tanzanians access online
content.
Announcing Tigo’s participation in this
year’s Nanenane exhibition at a press conference held in Dar es Salaam,
Tigo Corporate Communications Manager John Wanyancha said the low cost
smartphones is part of the company’s objective to promote digital
lifestyle transformation by giving Tanzanians access to the Internet
through their mobile phones.
“Our aim is to expose people to the
world of unlimited social and economic opportunities.
"We encourage
visitors to the Nanenane exhibition to pass by Tigo pavilion to view our
broad range digital products and most important, walk away with an
Internet connected smartphone at highly discounted price,” Mr Wanyancha
said.
Other products to be displayed by the
company at Nanenane, which will be held at national level in Lindi this
year, include Tigo Kilimo - a service tailored to meet the needs of
farmers by giving them information about the availability of
fertilisers, markets for their products and weather forecast.
Tigo is the main sponsor of Nanenane
this year.
“We encourage farmers in the southern regions of Mtwara,
Coast and Lindi to visit our pavilion and learn on how to access
essential information about farming from the convenience of the phones,”
Mr Wanyancha said noting that Tigo Kilimo is also accessible through
feature phones.
The press conference was attended by the
Chairman of Tanzania Agricultural Society (TASO) Engelbert Moyo who
said this year’s Nanenane exhibition will attract exhibitors from the
telecoms, mining, agroprocessing, energy, forestry, tourism, livestock
and the bee-keeping industry.
“All key government institutions will
also attend the exhibition including the ministries of Agriculture, food
Security and Cooperatives; Industry and Trade; Natural Resources and
Tourism; Energy and Minerals; Livestock Development and Fisheries; Home
Affairs; Defence; among others.
“And as always, we expect key government
officials to visit the exhibition including the Zanzibar President Dr
Ali Mohamed Shein who is scheduled to formally open this year’s Nanene
,” Mr Moyo said.
