Precision Air has finally secured a landing permit from the Democratic
Republic of Congo (DRC) allowing it to fly to Lusaka through Lubumbashi.
Sources from the airline's management told The Citizen yesterday that
the permit was issued last week and a Precision Air plane landed for the first
time in Lubumbashi last Friday.
Precision Air launched its Dar – Lusaka route via Lubumbashi last month
but was not able to land in the DRC city following a delay in issuing a landing
permit.
“We received the landing permit last week and started to land in
Lubumbashi begiinning Friday, but I cannot give you more details as I am not
the official spokesperson of the company.
“If you want to get more information contact the company’s managing
director,” said a Precision Air official who preferred anonymity.
Efforts to get comments from the Precision Air managing director and
chief executive officer Alfonse Kioko bore no fruits as his phone was not
picked. However, The Citizen learnt that he was attending an important training
in Dar es Salaam.
Recently the airline's chief executive officer said in Dar es Salaam
that the Airline would ply the new route using its newly-acquired Boeing
737-300.He said the airline would fly from Dar es Salaam to Lusaka through
Lubumbashi three times a week.
Precision Air was established in 1993 as a private charter air
transport company, operating a five-seater piper Aztec aircraft that provided
connections for tourists visiting the country.
The airline currently offers connections to all major towns in Tanzania
and regionally flies to Nairobi and Mombasa in Kenya and Entebbe in Uganda. The
Dar – Lusaka route has made a total of 17 destinations in which Precision Air
operates.
