The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) equities concluded the year on a high note with indices extending northward when compared to the preceding year.According to Zan Securities Limited weekly market wrap-ups, on annual basis the total turnover increased by 57 per cent to 396.78bn/- but the total volume of shares declined to 241,393,868 from 672,349 of the preceding year.
SIMBA counter led gainers adding 2,480 equivalent to 123 per cent to close at 4,500/-.
The TCC also continued its uptick, climbing by 8,140 equivalent to 95 per cent to close the year at 16,740/-. Other seven counters on gainers list were, Swissport, TOL, TBL, CRDB, TWIGA, DCB and NMB increased by 87, 77, 76,54,50,47 and 30 per cent respectively.
As a result DSE market capitalisation closed a year with solid gains by 34.17 per cent to 22.09tri/- from 16.5tri/- in January last year, while domestic capitalization went up by 65.98 per cent during the year under review. Overall, the major indices all closed with strong north direction above 34 per cent.
The Tanzania Share Index (TSI) capped at 4,672.57 points closed high by 64.32 per cent compared with 2,843.50 points posted on December 2013.
The DSEI All Share Index closed at 2,519.64 up by 34.99 per cent compared with 1,866.57 points recorded in previous year.
Industrial and Allied Index sustained upward trend by 78.67 per cent. While Bank, Finance and Investment Index increased by 37.49 per cent.
Commercial Services Index increased by 48.80 per cent during the year just ended. The outcome of trading last year was a total surprise because the market established a new all-time record high in terms prices, market capitalization, and major indices.
According to Zan Securities, DSE will continue perform better due to anticipated more public awareness and better performance of some listed companies this year.
