Fastjet, BidAir partner

The low cost carrier in the country—FastJet has sealed a business deal with one of Africa’s largest cargo operators—BidAir—to carry cargo of the airline’s customers.

A press statement issued in Dar es Salaam by Chief Commercial Officer of fastjet Richard Bodin stated that fastjet’s customers in Tanzania can now use BidAir to transfer their cargo within the country.

He said a recent feasibility study has concluded that the current Fastjet operation has sufficient capacity to accommodate the carrying business on its domestic routes.

“Africa has among the highest cargo revenue rates per kilo globally due to the challenges of poor road and rail infrastructure,” he said, adding that Fastjet’s management is expecting additional revenues from the cargo stream without compromising its core business.

He further said that the initial intention of Fastjet was to carry dry cargo like post and newspapers, describing cargo transport by air as the most efficient choice for cargo operators.

“We believe that offering this service will create an additional revenue stream for Fastjet while incurring low additional operating costs… BidAir is our perfect partner because of its excellent reputation and customercentric focus,” said Mr Bodin.

BidAir Chief Commercial Officer Vincent Banda said “We are proud to be associated with Fastjet and hope to replicate our business model, which has proved success in South Africa, Uganda and Zambia.”
