DSE posts higher turnover

The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) has registered a significant increase in its turnover to 4.65bn/-, equivalent to 31.4 per cent rise, compared to 3,54bn/- last week.

Tanzania Securities Limited (TSL) said in its weekly market commentary that shares traded went down 4,648,476 from 9,418,240 recorded in the last week’s trading session.

The week’s decrease in activity was due to decreased foreign investor’s participation during the week and lack of supply of shares in some counters.

The indices continued with modest gains for both the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange All Share Index (DSEI) and the Tanzania Share Index (TSI).

The DSEI closed 0.25 per cent higher at 1,611.49 points while the TSI ended at 1,962.67 points 0.88 per cent. 

The Banking segment Index settled at 1,941.43 points, 2.8 per cent weaker than the previous period due to loss made on the CRDB counter by 3.57 per cent from 280/- and 270/- per share.

The segment moved a significant volume of shares but low turnover during the week. Banks accounted for 78 per cent of the week’s total volume traded and 20 per cent of the market value.

CRDB was mainly dominated by local investors during the week whereas foreign investors contributed 8 per cent of CRDB’s total turnover. The counter traded 9,021,134 shares at a price of 265/- and 260/- per share.

NMB counter transacted 32,673 shares at a price of 1820/-. The Industrial and Allied Index ended the week at 2,163.38 points supported by TBL counter that gained 7.56 per cent to close the week at 3,700/-.

The segment was more liquid this week compared to the previous week moving around 22 per cent of total market’s activity and 79 per cent of the total turnover. TBL was the most active counter among the Industrial and Allied sector during the week trading 897,801 shares at a price of 3,700/- and 3,720/- per share.

Twiga followed with 117,613 shares being transacted at a price of 2,700/- per share. Swissport closed the week at 2,280/- per share, moving a volume of 5,719 shares.

A total of 780 shares of Simba changed hands at a price of 2,380/- while TCC moved 349 shares at a price of 6,860/- There were no activities on the Tatepa, TOL and Precision counters.
