Dar bourse records windfall business

Turnover at the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) increased seven times to 6.35bn/- last week, compared to 906m/- recorded in the previous week.

Activity level went up to 3,274,857 shares from the 1,277,500 shares recorded in the preceding period. 

The Tanzania Securities Limited (TSL) weekly market commentary shows that foreign investors’ participation during the period under review went up to 38.63 per cent of the total turnover.

Indices for both the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange All Share Index (DSEI) and the Tanzania Share Index (TSI) continued with their upward rally, with the DSEI closing 3.7 per cent higher at 1,676.76 points while the TSI ended the week at 1,995.96 points, which is 0.53 per cent up.

The banking segment Index strengthened to 2,007.56 points, thanks to gains made on NMB counter by 1.08 per cent to 1,860/- and 1,880/- per share.

The Industrial and Allied Index ended the week at 2,192.58 points, supported by TBL, TCC and Swissport counters that gained 0.54, 3.5 and 1.75 per cent, respectively.

The banking segment moved a smaller amount volume of shares and turnover compared to the previous week, accounting for 41 per cent of the total volume traded and 9 per cent of the market value.

Foreign investors dominated CRDB counter during the week, contributing about 59 per cent of the bank’s total turnover.

The counter traded 1,119,052 shares at between 265/- and 270/- per share while NMB counter transacted 105,209 shares at 1,860/- and 1,880/- each. 

Industrial and Allied segment was the most active sector this week, accounting 59 per cent of total market activity and 91per cent of the total turnover.

Twiga was the most active counter trading about 1,300,476 shares at 2,700/- each, followed by TBL’s 615,691 shares that were transacted at between 3,720/- and 3,740/-. 

Simba counter closed the week at 2,340/- and 2,360/- per share, moving 12,650 shares.

TCC counter had 3,600 shares changing hands at between 6,860/- and 7,100/- while TTP moved 2,200 shares at 650/- each. 

Swissport counter moved 2,191 shares at a price of 2,320/-. There were no activities on the TOL and Precision counters.
