Daladala owners support DART

The Dar es Salaam Association of Commuter Owners (DARCOBOA) and the Association of Transporters in Dar es Salaam (UWADAR) have pledged their support on the implementation of Dar Rapid Transport (DART).

DARCOBOA chairman, Sabri Mabrouk, said his association was aware of DART implementation and that it was prepared to welcome the new initiative.

Addressing a meeting that was organised by Dar Rapid Transit Agency to discuss, among other things, opportunities that would come with the new system, Mr Mabrouk said Dar es Salaam commuter bus operators have mobilised themselves into company that would have stake in DART Bus operations.

“My plea to fellow commuter bus owners is that we should come together and form the company that would take the lead in DART Bus operations once shares are floated to the public,” he urged.

Mabrouk said it was their obligation to join hands with DART to improve public transport in Dar es Salaam.

“We in DARCOBOA will work closely with DART and other players to ensure that DART operations become effective and efficient,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the newly registered Association of Transporters in Dar es Salaam (UWADAR), Mr William Masanja, commended the government for implementing Dar Rapid Transport Project in Dar es Salaam.

Mr Masanja showered praises on DART management for the execution of the project, which he described as one of its kinds in Africa.

“We acknowledge the government efforts in implementing DART and pledge our support on the same,” he said.
