Simbanet deploys GPON fibre technology in Dar es Salaam

Simbanet, a local ICT company, has deployed in Dar es Salaam the latest communications infrastructure, Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) fibre technology bringing greater bandwidth to allow more speed and reliability in internet connections.

The Simbanet General Manager, Stanley Ayitta, told the ‘Daily News’ in Dar es Salaam last Thursday that the GPON fibre technology would offer unlimited bandwidth capabilities with ultrafast connectivity.

“It has lots of capacity in terms of bandwidth. It gives you faster access in internet connections and it is more reliable,” he said in an interview on the sidelines of an event organised by Simbanet to network with its business partners.

He said GPON fibre technology uses latest self healing technology, enabling variety of users from real time applications, web based applications, telemedicine, VIP and video.

According to ICT experts, GPON is a point-to-multipoint access mechanism.

Its main characteristic is the use of passive splitters in the fibre distribution network, enabling one single feeding fiber from the provider’s central office to serve multiple homes and small businesses.

Simbanet (T) Limited is a Licensed Public Data Operator with National and International Applications Licence specialised in providing high speed data and Internet connectivity via Submarine Optic Fibre.

It is a partner in the national ICT backbone (NICTBB) infrastructure, connected and having point of presence in more than 14 regions using the NICTBB.
