Investors’ forums revived

Local and international investors are set to meet with the government in November this year and discuss issues relating to Tanzania’s investment climate, President Jakaya Kikwete has said.

Addressing members of the private sector in Dar es Salaam, President Jakaya Kikwete said that Local Investors Roundtable and the International Investors Roundtable meetings will be held in November, this year.

“The preparations are well underway as the regional and districts’ business council meetings have started taking place,” he told Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF) business dinner held in Dar es Salaam recently.

The meetings, which were first held in 2003, seek to engage both local and international investors and the government in dialogues with the aim of improving business and investment climate in the country.

They were being conducted almost on yearly basis in the past until 2009 when the last meeting was held. President Kikwete who is also the chairman of Tanzania National Business Council (TNBC), however, said the meetings were of significant importance.

TNBC is entrusted with preparation of the meetings since they started ten years ago.

The President said in reference to a new leadership at TNBC under Mr Raymong Mbilinyi as the executive secretary, that: “Now that we have a young and dynamic CEO, I am confident that the affairs of TNBC are in good hands.” Mr Mbilinyi was appointed TNBC boss in May this year.

President Kikwete noted that the meetings are important as they provide a platform for exchange of ideas on how to improve the business environment in the country.

Welcoming the President at the event, outgoing TPSF chairperson Esther Mkwizu said that the business community was looking forward to having broader discussions with the government through existing platforms.
