Shilling fluctuations affect producers

The instability of shilling and higher dollar demand adversely affect operation of local industries, the largest multibillion and international mattress manufacturing industry, Panafrica Enterprises said on Sunday.

Determined to serve consumers in Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi with 40 years existence in the market Panafrica Enterprises Sales Manager Mr Salim Hassanli said that it is only quality, high density and standard products that make it lead the market.

He said that they serve customers from all walks of life depending on their economic status and for the past three years they have not reviewed their prices despite serious economic crises that had badly hit the world market.

Panafrica Enterprises Ltd is one of the 1,600 local companies that is taking part in the 37th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair which climaxes today.

Currently the company has three manufacturing units -- in Arusha, Mwanza and Dar es Salaam and serves the whole country through agents.

“We have been in the market for a long time and we are still expanding, we have been the number one choice as we provide quality brand of comfy mattress, manufacturing and supplying all foam products and related accessories,” Mr Hassanli said.

He said that though there was increased costs of raw materials and other machines equipment they were importing from outside the country, but prices did not go up as other companies were doing, instead the company was reducing operational cost.

Being able to manufacture 62,500 pieces of comfy mattresses monthly in every branch they have, Mr Hassanli said that they were embarking on continuous innovation and constant research and development.

“We are proud of our manufacturing complex, which is well equipped with the state-of-the art technology as we upgrade our machines on regular basis by obtaining the most modern and computerised technology,” he said, adding that the move makes them achieve maximum efficiency and productivity that enhances the quality of the products.

With 450 dealers based all over the country, Panafrica Enterprises Ltd also manufactures and distributes countrywide high quality and standard comfy pillows and cushions.

Mr Hassanali noted that since the establishment of the company, Panafrica’s comfy mattresses and cushions entered African homes, hotels, hospitals and resorts and have now undergone major transformation to ensure that they meet customers’ demands.
