DSE weekly trading booms 53 per cent

The weekly turnover at the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange increased to 482m/-, over 53 per cent gains from the previous week’s 315m/-.

Tanzania Securities Limited (TSL) weekly market commentary attributes 11 per cent of the turnover to foreign investors. Similarly, shares traded shot to 1,510,774, about 57 per cent from last week’s 962,770.

“The increase in turnover and volume was mainly supported by CRDB counter by 80 per cent and 93 per cent respectively,” remarked Ms Upendo Lyatuu, a TSL analyst.

The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange All Share Index (DSEI) ended the week 0.29 per cent higher at 1,553.49 points while Tanzania Share Index (TSI) closed at 1,717.42 points, which is 1.12 per cent up supported by gains made in the CRDB and Precision Air 3.26 per cent.

The Banking segment Index settled 1,634.07 points (1.74 per cent) stronger than previous week, thanks to gains made on the CRDB counter. CRDB counter recorded a significant increase in price—reaching 205/- per share from last week’s 197/50.

A total of 1,405,557 CRDB shares changed hands, exceeding last week’s trade volume of 887,672 shares by 58 per cent. NMB closed the week under review with a price settling at 1,580/-.

During the week, the counter transacted 45,716 shares, slightly higher than 45,494 shares of last week. The Industrial and Allied Index gained 1.10 per cent to end the week at 1,928.00 points buoyed by gains made on TBL and Precision Air counters.

Twiga counter was the lead this week on the Industrial and Allied segment, generating a turnover of 64m/-. A total of 24,146 shares changed hands during the week mainly supported by local investors at 2,640/- per share.

SIMBA traded 20,353 shares at a price of 2,400/- per share. Precision Air moved 10,000 shares this week with its price gaining to 475/- per share.

TBL counter traded 2,250 shares to close the week at 1,980/- per share. SWISSPORT moved 1,903 shares with its price remaining at 1,980/- per share TOL, TTP and TCC traded very minimal shares during the week.
