Cattle supply up at Pugu market

The monthly cattle supply at Pugu market increased 6.7 per cent to 745 in May compared to 698 supplied in April.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade monthly report for May, this year shows that the prices for mature female cattle grade two (G2) declined by 0.7 per cent to 560,000/- from 564,000/- recorded in previous period.

The prices for mature female cattle grade three (G3) fell slightly by 0.6 per cent to 547,500/- in the month under review from 551,000/- of the period before.

The prices for mature male cattle grade (G2) rose to 800,000/- in the month under review from 702,000/- recorded in the previous period, representing a 13.9 per cent increase. However, the prices of the male cattle grade (G3) made a slight fall by one per cent to 594,000/- compared to 600,000/- of the previous month.

Meanwhile, the daily average sales of goats at the market increased to 407 in the month of May compared to 368 in April this year, equivalent of 10.6 per cent rise.

The prices for mature female goats grade (2) declined by 2.5 per cent to 78,000/- form 80,000/- of the previous period. Similarly, the prices for mature female goats grade (3) fell by 7.1 per cent to 65,000/- compared to 70,000/- of the preceding market.

The prices for mature male goats grade (2) dipped by 3.2 per cent to 90,000/- in the month under review compared to 93,000/- of the previous period. Likewise, the prices for mature male goats grade (3) fell by 6 per cent to 70,000/- from 74,000/- of the previous session.

The average sales per market day for sheep fell to 203 during the month compared to 217 in the previous session, which is 6.4 per cent change. The prices for mature male sheep grade (2) increased by 27.2 per cent to 72,500/- compared to 57,000/- of the previous market.
