E.Africa agribusiness exhibition set for June

The Eastern Africa Grain Council and its key partners will organize the second edition of its annual Agribusiness Expo (ABF) event here in June, it was announced on Thursday.

Themed ‘The Future of Agribusiness; Pathways to Commercialization’, the event, slated for June 14th and 15th, will take place at the Selian Agricultural Research Institute (SAR) at Kisongo along the Dodoma road.

“This will be the second time the fair is held in Tanzania after a successful one that was held in July 2012”, said the executive director of the regional grain body based in Nairobi Mr. Gerald Makau Masila when addressing reporters.

The Agribusiness Expo is expected to create a platform for interaction and showcasing new technologies, innovations and agribusiness models “that would help existing agribusinesses become more efficient, sustainable and protiable”.

According to him, similar exhibitions will be held in Masindi, Uganda on June 28 to 29 and another one at the Kabarak University in Nakuru, Kenya on August 1 and 2.

The Agribusiness Expo brings together all the players in the agribusiness industry to exhibit their products and services. With them the service providers come face to face with the farming community.

Specifically the expo is targeting agro dealers, farm implements traders, food processors, players in the financial sector including banks and insurance companies, research institutions, among others.

Farmers from across Tanzania are expected at the event, with those from the northern regions of Arusha, Manyara, Kilimanjaro and Tanga expected to form the bulk of the attendants.

Mr. Masila added that the EAGC Agribusiness Expo was one of several programmes implemented by the Council on behalf of its members and other stakeholders who are players in the grain value chain; producers, traders and processors.
