The Precision Air (PW) has turned Mwanza as a minihub that
not only serves the country’s Lake Zone in and outbound flights but also the
entire East African bloc.
PW’s Head of Marketing and Branding,
Ms Linda Chiza, said given the importance of the Airport the airline has
resumed daily Kigoma flights but would be served from Mwanza’s minihub.
“There are many passengers from within the EAC bloc and want
to fly to Kigoma, therefore its economic to connect them from Mwanza,” Ms Chiza
said.
She added: “If the need arise we will introduce a direct flight from Dar
es Salaam to Kigoma, as at the moment the economies of scales do not permit
nonstop flight.”
Ms Chiza was speaking during the function for resumption of
the Dar-Kigoma flights that were suspended in August to give room for Kigoma
Airport major renovation.
She told journalists that the airline would continue
to deploy ATR equipment until the Kigoma’s airport runaway is expanded to
accommodate Boeing 737, in the near future.
The airline said the Kigoma flights, will be on Tuesday and
Thursday and the arrival at Kigoma around noon. PW’s Head of Revenue Management
Mr Elvis Ndomo said they are anticipating a cabin factor of about 100 per cent
since the lake side town had no reliable air transport for almost six months.
“This is a good route and prospects are high,” Mr Ndomo said
pegging their hope on the competitive fare of 199,000/- all tax and onboard
service inclusive for a single-leg similar to Dar-Mwanza return. The Dar-Kigoma
return is 349,000/- all tax inclusive.
PW is listed on Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) and its
share was changing hands at 475/- a piece yesterday. “We (Precision Air) are
keen to provide hassle free travel,” the Airline’s Sales Manager-Dar and
Zanzibar, Mrs Nancy Bagaka said.
The reintroduction of Kigoma is the 19th
destination that the airline is current flying. The latest is Songwe.
